about us
Adoptee of Color Round Table (ACR) was initially conceived as a small discussion group facilitated by members of AKA-SF (Association of Korean Adoptees – San Francisco) and AFAAD (Adopted and Fostered Adults of the African Diaspora) in Oakland, CA. U.S.A. ACR has now grown beyond these two organizations* to include collaborative relationships with numerous adoptee of color organizations and individual adoptees doing research and social justice work across the globe. (please see the signers of our Statement on Haiti).
ACR came about because many adoptees of color have worked for years, struggling against the institutionalization of a global network of intercountry and domestic adoption practices, laws and policies. ACR grows out of a concern for the lack of a critical and informed multilocalized platform for adult adoptees of color to explore issues as they become prioritized by us in a manner that allow us to: push ourselves beyond our individual racialized histories in order to examine the global politics of adoption as it impacts people of color across the globe by forming collaborative relationships with other adoptee of color organizations and individual adoptees; provide a clearinghouse for those looking for information, research, and stories of intercountry/ transracial adoption; and ultimately provide support and healing space for the losses and wounds of adoption, education and localized resources from a social justice/ politicized perspective for adoptees of color who have been dislocated from our countries or places of origin.

“About US” might include who you are.
Grateful that you have voiced my feelings and concerns.
I read the article, and once again the human psyche can find a way to a situation, and turn it into something grotesque and inhumane. The thought that persons would actually take this dire situation, and turn it for profit, and self greed, is disgusting, and the fact that children are involved makes it that much worse. I thought that the adoptions were for children that were orphans before the quake, and had absolutely nothing after the fact. I did not know that people would think to “sell” these babies, and not regard the fact that some of them already have families, Mothers and Fathers. The United States isn’t the “Wonderful Utopia” that a lot of people think it to be, and for people to sit on their high horses and think that they set the bar for the world as far as standards go, is pompous and irresponsible. I thank you for the information, and I will take all that you have stated into consideration, and I will indeed pass the information along.
Who are you? No information. I want to use your statemtnt in an ethics lesson in adoption but don’t know who the source is which ios problematic.
